Godly Submission

1 Now in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus, that a census be taken of all the inhabited earth. 2This was the first census taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria.
3 And everyone was on his way to register for the census, each to his own city.
4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,
5 in order to register along with Mary, who was engaged to him, and was with child.
6 While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth.

The Messiah was to be born in Bethlehem of Judea in order to fulfill prophecy. How could this be when the mother and father were from Galilee? Another question. Why would God choose a couple far from the place He had ordained to be the birthplace of the Savior? As I look at this scripture, I have to surmise that God knew the heart of this man and women. He knew that, as an act of their will, they would submit to His instruction. They could have rebelled (or chosen to be politically correct) since this census was to not only to gather a tax to pay for the ungodly excesses of Rome but also so the Roman government could record names for military subscription.

Joseph and Mary submitted, and the outcome of the prophecy of old was fulfilled. Are we willing to submit to God’s will through others or circumstances that seem less than ideal? I encourage you to be like Joseph and Mary, the shepherds in the field, and the wise men from the east that submitted to God’s will through others and circumstances. The outcome was that Joseph and Mary became the earthly parents of the Lamb of God who would take away the sins of the World. The shepherds who had no rights in that society were the first to receive the message the Savior of the world was born. The wise men came and were the first to honor the Savior with gifts. Their willingness to submit their actions to God fulfilled Prophecy. The people of the world were never the same again.

Are we willing to submit to God like Mary, Joseph, the wise men, and shepherds had done in order to be used to fulfill His will on earth. We must submit to the will of Father to accept His son as savior. We must submit to will of the Father through others at times to see His Kingdom come, and His will be done on earth.

Thank you Jesus for your gift of salvation. I prayer I submit my will to yours in all things. I will seek always to know and submit to Your will. So that Your Kingdom will come and Will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven in every part of my life and all that You would have me to do. Amen
